Salsa
Event a Success
11/24/03
More than a hundred people showed up at the
quad area of PCC and watched the Candela Salsa
event last Thursday. There was music, dancing,
dance performances and an exciting dance competition.
There was performances by Eduardo's beginner
class. The students did a warm up routine
and then some footwork. Eduardo himself performed
with his dance partner, Dorothy Tsu who wowed
the audience with their choreography. It started
off as a cha cha routine and ended with Salsa.
Eduardo displayed some impressive dancing
ability. Also performing was Carlos and Nancy
who had an exciting routine.
And then there was the most exciting part
of the event, the salsa competition. All contestants
went on the dance floor to show off their
'skills' while the crowed watched. The winners
were determined by audiece applause. The final
round of the event was a tense moment as the
audience struggled to determine who their
favorite couple was. The contestants were
all such great dancers so it was difficult
to decide.
The first place winners received a stereo
boombox. Second place won free Salsa lessons
from Candela instructor, Eduardo Casso. And
third place winner won Charanga Cubana CD
and passes to the salsa club, 'Steven's Steak
House'. After that, Twila was recognized for
her outstanding contributions to the club.
And then, of course, there was social dancing
in the end where everyone was invited on the
dance floor to dance and have fun. The event
was successful and the Candela club hopes
that they could make the event even better
for next year.
